The Society for the Scientific Study of Religion is creating a structure of mentoring and training to better equip SSSR members for excellent scholarship. We are searching for three senior mentors, three recent PhDs, and six graduate students from multiple disciplines in our association. Senior mentors (associate and full professors) will lead discipline-specific mentoring groups that consist of one early PhD (less than five years post-PhD) and two graduate students.

The mentoring groups will last three years, beginning at the 2022 annual meeting and ending at the 2025 annual meeting. The SSSR will fund one meal for the mentoring group per year at the annual meeting; mentors will receive an honorarium of $500 per year for three years. Mentors will meet with those being mentored at least one other time via phone (individually or as a group) for each year of the mentoring period.

Mentor applications include:

  1. One paragraph describing their experience with mentoring and approach to mentoring.
  2. Recent short CV of no more than 5 pages.

Mentee applications include:

  1. Curriculum vitae
  2. No more than one page describing their reasons for interest in the program.
